The Praise of Folly, a satirical commentary on human affairs by Desiderius Erasmus, was printed in its second edition in Basel by Johann Froben in 1515. The copy in the Kunstmuseum Basel features marginal drawings, seventy-nine by Hans Holbein the Younger and three by his brother Ambrosius, and a decorative woodcut frame on the title page. In marginal notes, Oswald Mykonius, a sixteenth-century owner of the book, noted that the marginal drawings by the Holbeins were completed in just ten days between the end of 1515 and the start of 1516.
We have 1 facsimile edition of the manuscript "Praise of Folly": Erasmi Roterodami Encomium moriae facsimile edition, published by Henning Oppermann, 1931
