The Berlin Theuerdank is a copy of the long German-language epic poem recounting the adventures of Sir Theuerdank, a fictionalized version of Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor, who commissioned the work. The text, in octasyllabic rhyming couplets, describes a series of perils—both natural and human-made—in the way of the knight reaching his bride-to-be. Johann Schönsperger (the Elder), Maximilian's imperial court printer, published the limited-edition book in Nuremberg in 1517. The Berlin copy, like the Glasgow Theuerdank, is printed on parchment, and its 118 woodcuts are delicately hand colored.
We have 1 facsimile edition of the manuscript "Berlin Theuerdank": Ruhmreichen Taten des Ritters Theuerdank facsimile edition, published by Lambert Schneider, 2015
