The Beauchamp Pageant is an illustrated biography of Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick, an important figure at the height of the Hundred Years War. Made in England, it was most likely commissioned in the 1480s by Richard's daughter, Anne Beauchamp. The artist, known as the Caxton Master, was either Flemish or trained in Flanders. The manuscript features fifty-three detailed drawings (or "pageants") that chronicle the earl's life and two pictorial genealogies, all accompanied by captions in Middle English. The illustrations provide insight into late medieval European court culture, including dress and ritual.
