The Salamanca Armorial is a sixteenth-century manuscript created by Steve Tamburino, drummer of John II of Aragon and Ferdinand the Catholic. It was owned by Christoval de Torres and Agustin de Torres and came into the ownership of the Colegio Mayor in Cuenca. In the early nineteenth century, it went to the King of Spain's library. From the Palacio de Oriente in Madrid it reached Salamanca in 1954. The heraldic value of this manuscript is very high as it is dependent on the work of Garcia Alonso de Torres, blazonry official of Ferdinand the Catholic.
Summary of the Work
The manuscript includes a brief description of the Carolingian conquest of Iberia; a brief treatise on heraldry; drawings of tabards, standards, crowns, fish, feathers and other heraldic figures; and biblical, classical, and medieval blazons.
