Poems on Christian Themes is an illuminated manuscript of verses by Saint Nersēs Shnorhali ("the gracious") on biblical subjects. It was written and illuminated in 1432 at the behest of one Šamšatin for his son by Khatchatur, a monk of the Armenian monastery of Saint Anthony near Kaffa on the Crimean Peninsula. The poems are embellished with eleven full-page miniatures, eleven smaller miniatures, and twenty-four marginal vignettes. The miniatures take their subjects from the life of Christ and the early history of the Church. The marginal scenes include episodes and figures from the Old Testament.
