Leonhart Fuchs's New Kreüterbuch is the first German edition of his landmark botanical work, printed by Michael Isingrin in Basel in 1543. Written for a vernacular readership, it describes plants' names, forms, habitats, growing seasons, and medicinal properties while grounding identification in close observation of nature. Its 517 botanical woodcuts, designed by Albrecht Meyer, transferred to the blocks by Heinrich Füllmaurer, and cut by Veit Rudolf Speckle, established an influential visual standard for Renaissance botanical publishing.
