Melusine; or, The Noble History of Lusignan is the first printed French edition of Jean d'Arras's celebrated prose romance about the fairy Mélusine and the legendary origins of the Lusignan dynasty. Printed by Adam Steinschaber in Geneva in August 1478, the book is an important witness to the early transmission of the romance from manuscript into print. Its sixty-three woodcuts form an extensive narrative illustration cycle closely related to the imagery developed for earlier German printed editions of the Mélusine story.
