The Hours of the Marquis of Dos Aguas is a lavishly illuminated Christian prayer book made in Valencia. It is a book of hours, the private devotional book with the Hours of the Virgin as its principal text. Dating from around 1500, the manuscript shimmers with abundant gold found in its one full-page miniatures, its many painted initials and borders, and the rubrics. The miniature of the Annunciation to the Virgin is the work of an accomplished Valencian painter influenced by the contemporary art of the Netherlands.
