The Budapest Book of Surgery is an illuminated manuscript of the Latin translation of the treatise on surgery that constituted the thirtieth and last book of the medical encyclopedia by Abū al-Qāsim al-Zahrāwī(Abulcasis). It treats cauterization, obstetrics, bloodletting, and orthopedics. It was copied and illuminated in the second half of the thirteenth or early fourteenth century, probably in Italy. Its illumination comprises four miniatures, including representations of the extraction of a dead fetus and a traction table in use. There are more than 200 depictions of surgical instruments.
