The Barberini Prince is a deluxe manuscript of Il Principe by Niccolò Machiavelli, a work of political philosophy based on practical concerns. It was copied by Genesio de la Barrera in the author's lifetime, but not under his supervision. Created between 1519 and 1523 in Rome, it was surely made for a high-ranking client. The presentation is elegant with twenty-seven decorated initials. Proper names and concepts are written in red in the wide outer margins, guiding the reader to specific content or citing authorities for views expressed.
We have 1 facsimile edition of the manuscript "Barberini Prince": Il Principe facsimile edition, published by Istituto dell'Enciclopedia Italiana - Treccani, 2013
