At the age of eighty, on 26th April 1313, shortly before embarking on a journey to Sicily, Ramon Llull made a will, which he had drawn up before the notary of Majorca.

The only copy of this curious document is preserved in the Archive of the Marquis of Santa María de Barberá at the Vilassar de Dalt Castle, in the Maresme region (Barcelona). It is important to note that this is not, as it might appear at first glance, the original will: the document kept there is a notarial copy of the original document.

This document is probably a copy or a contemporary partial transcription of the original document that legitimizes and demonstrates the donation of manuscripts to the Abbey of Santa María la Real.

International social justice movements and the debates that ensued prompted us to start considering the contents of our website from a critical point of view. This has led us to acknowledge that most of the texts in our database are Western-centered. We have asked the authors of our content to be aware of the underlying racial and cultural bias in many scholarly sources, and to try to keep in mind multiple points of view while describing the manuscripts. We also recognize that this is yet a small, first step towards fighting inequality.
