The Passional of Abbess Kunegunda is a Christian devotional book containing mystical treatises on the Passion of Christ and salvation history, most by the Dominican friar Colda of Colditz. The manuscript was written and illuminated between 1312 and 1321 by canon Beneš at the Benedictine convent of Saint George in Prague Castle for the abbess, Kunegunda, daughter of Ottokar II, King of Bohemia. The subjects of the twenty-six miniatures, many of which comprise multiple scenes, are deeply connected to the spiritual meaning of the text and designed for affective engagement by the medieval reader-viewer.
