The Getty Apocalypse<\/strong> is one of the most beautiful gothic apocalypses<\/strong> manuscripts made in England. In the course of the 13th century<\/strong>, as prominent preachers predicted the end of the world, there was almost suddenly an increase in demand for illuminated manuscripts of Revelation, the culminating book of the New Testament, known as the Apocalypse of John the Divine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Sequence of Divine Revelations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With over 40 elegantly illustrated miniatures and more than 40 historiated initials<\/strong> the Getty Apocalypse is to be considered one of the finest examples of the genre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/span>The artist enjoyed depicting St. John peeking<\/strong> inside the miniatures<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Getty Apocalypse<\/strong>, also known as the Dyson Perrins Apocalypse, was written and illuminated with 4<\/a>1<\/a> astounding illustrations<\/a><\/strong> and exemplifies an exceptional artistic achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The miniatures are purposely placed in succession above the text creating a sequence of divine revelations<\/strong>, leading the viewer through John\u2019s poetic, dramatic vision of the Apocalypse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These miniatures, amongst the finest from the Middle Ages, are gracefully delineated in tinted color embellished with gold and silver leaf<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
