{"id":4920,"date":"2018-03-09T09:30:31","date_gmt":"2018-03-09T07:30:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.facsimilefinder.com\/articles\/?p=4920"},"modified":"2017-12-19T11:45:00","modified_gmt":"2017-12-19T09:45:00","slug":"viennas-trionfi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.facsimilefinder.com\/articles\/viennas-trionfi\/","title":{"rendered":"Vienna&#8217;s Trionfi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Between the 15th and 16th centuries, Francesco Petrarch\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facsimilefinder.com\/facsimiles\/les-triomphes-de-petrarque-facsimile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Canzoniere and Trionfi<\/strong><\/a>, which had already been exalted in Italy in the 14th century during the poet\u2019s life or shortly after his death, became enormously popular in France, where he had lived for some time in the <strong>papal court at Avignon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4951\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" ><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facsimilefinder.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4951\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facsimilefinder.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/4-1024x1536.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"1050\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.facsimilefinder.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/4-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.facsimilefinder.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/4-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.facsimilefinder.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/4-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.facsimilefinder.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/4.jpg 1697w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Miniature from Petrarch&#8217;s Canzoniere<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Careful attention is thus merited by a richly illustrated manuscript with a French translation of the <strong>Trionfi<\/strong>, now conserved at the <strong>Austrian National Library in Vienna<\/strong> (Cod. 2581, 2582, bearing the title <em>Les triumphes de Messire francoys petrarque<\/em> beneath the coat of arms of f. 1r). Though it is a work that has rarely been addressed by scholars, it falls rightfully into the revaluation of French art at the time of <strong>Charles VIII<\/strong> and <strong>Louis XII<\/strong>, which recently culminated in the exhibition <em>France 1500. Entre Moyen \u00c2ge et Renaissance<\/em>\u00a0and since continues, revealing findings that tend to dispel commonly held ideas.
