In their 5th year of activity, the super-active publisher from Lucerne has just announced their 11th facsimile edition: a remarkable publishing rhythm that puts the Swiss publishing house on top of the facsimile industry.<\/p>\n

The new facsimile: the Peterborough Psalter in Brussels<\/h2>\n

The Peterborough Psalter in Brussels<\/strong><\/a> (ms.\u00a09961-62 at the Biblioth\u00e8que Royale de Belgique in Bruxelles) is the new medieval facsimile<\/strong> just announced.<\/p>\n

The manuscript is a lavish illuminated codex produced in England<\/strong> (probably Norwich or London) at the very beginning of the 14th century (circa 1300-1318<\/strong>). More than 116 scenes from the Old and New Testament are arranged in full-page miniatures<\/strong>; moreover,\u00a035 beautiful historiated initials<\/strong> and 12 calendar pages are featured throughout the codex.<\/p>\n

This work of art\u00a0is the most beautiful of a group known as the Fenland manuscripts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Lucy Freeman Sandler<\/strong> thoroughly described this family\u00a0of manuscripts in her book “The Peterborough Psalter in Brussels &\u00a0other Fenland manuscripts<\/strong>” (London: Harvey Miller – New York Graphic Society, 1974).<\/p>\n

New features in the production of medieval facsimiles<\/h2>\n

Quaternio Verlag Luzern<\/a> is successfully approaching new techniques in facsimile production.<\/p>\n

The Speculum Humanae Salvationis in Einsiedeln<\/a>\u00a0facsimile, announced last Spring, in going to have parchment-like paper<\/strong>, with light cockling<\/strong> on the page. This features, a big news in the facsimile production of German-speaking countries, is going to stay in the Peterborough Psalter.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But there’s more!<\/h3>\n

The Peterborough Psalter, in fact, features\u00a0embossed gold on every single page of the manuscript. The whole text (apart the\u00a0columns written in blue ink) is made of\u00a0gold leaf. Quaternio Verlag has announced that this facsimile edition<\/strong>, for the first time in their history, will feature embossed gold<\/strong>!<\/p>\n
